FAQ
xTool M2 supports printing, cutting, and engraving on a wide range of materials, including paper, fabric, wood, leather, acrylic, and metal, depending on the module installed. Important: Never process PVC, PC, or foam/leather of unknown composition with a laser. For more details and safety guidance, please refer to the M2 Material Guide for Beginner Creators.
The inkjet module works best on fabric, wood, paper, and other similar porous surfaces. It cannot print directly on very dense or smooth materials such as metal, glass, or ceramic, because the ink cannot properly penetrate or adhere to them. Printing on these materials requires a suitable adhesion coating to be applied first.
Ink yield depends on your projects, printing frequency, and ink coverage. As a technical reference, under the ISO standard (5% coverage), one set of cartridges can print approximately 400 pages.
In real-world crafting, here’s what that typically looks like:
Tips to extend ink life:
Replacement:
The cartridges are not refillable. Once the ink is used up, please purchase a new cartridge and follow the replacement instructions in the user manual.
No. Thanks to the M2’s side laser projection, you can engrave objects from 0 to 100 mm thick, such as insulated bottles, balls, or rings, without any riser base.
For regular laser use, we recommend the xTool Desktop Air Purifier as a cost-effective option.
For frequent cutting or materials that produce stronger odors, we recommend the SafetyPro™ AP2 Air Purifier for enhanced filtration and better odor removal.

No. The M2 has a built-in air pump (air assist) and delivers cutting results that are just as clean as an external system. You can adjust the airflow level based on your specific engraving or cutting needs.
Note: The M2 does not have an external air port, so third-party pump connections are not supported.
No. The CMYK module uses water-based ink. Printed colors may smudge or fade when exposed to water, so washing customized items is not recommended.
Yes. The ink used in the CMYK module is designed to be skin-safe. When using tattoo paper, the ink is printed onto the paper, while the protective film is the part that comes into direct contact with your skin.
In addition, xTool will soon offer temporary tattoo paper on its official store with safety certification for skin contact. Stay tuned!
Yes. To use the RA3 rotary attachment with the xTool M2, you will need the M2 Adaptation Kit. This kit is not yet available for purchase and is expected to launch toward the end of June. Please check the product page for the latest updates.
